Description
Description: 7 days, 6 nights, 5 days of riding. You can't go wrong with Barolo. The town of Barolo is the namesake for the wine of the region. Made from the Nebbiolo grape, Barolo wine has been referred to as the King of Wines and The Wine of Kings. Next summer will be our third pass through the region and each time there has been a variation in the itinerary, keeping it fresh. The Piedmont region and the area around Barolo is at about 1200 ft. The temperature during the day is very pleasant. During the month of June, temperatures can range from 59 - 73 degrees. Being the foothills of the Alps, this area it's reminiscent of riding around WNC. A primary difference is the vegetation with lots of vineyards and hazelnut groves. There is a low population density, so we see very few cars on our routes. If you were to ride bikes out around rural western NC, you'd likely be on relatively quiet secondary roads. In and around Barolo and the Piedmont area, they have a 3rd layer or tertiary roads, basically farm roads, often one lane wide and paved. We average about 26 miles per day, but given that we're all on E-bikes it's a moot point. Matteo, our Italian guide, will ride with us. He's full of local knowledge. Our other guide and mechanic, Aad, will drive our SAG wagon and follow. The days are casual. With breakfast typically at 8:00. By 9:00 we're getting on the bikes or being shuttled to a starting point. We may stop for a mid-morning coffee break. Lunches are often family-style at a cafe or family-owned casina. We'll plan on having dinner at our inn nightly with the exception of going out to eat on our last night in Acqui Terme. In the event someone wanted to take a day off, that may be a possibility (i.e. riding in the SAG wagon) or possibly being shuttled to the next night's hotel. All in all, it's a great trip, and yes, bring your swimsuit.
Itinerary
Average daily riding distance: 27 miles per day. No problem, you can do this as we will all be on electric bikes! The Piedmont is thought to be home of the Slow Food Movement. Don't worry, you'll burn it off.
Eat pasta and pedal fasta!

Description
Description: 7 days, 6 nights, 4 days of riding, 1 rest day for sightseeing (i.e. Sienna). As an alternative to the rest day, we can organize a half or full-day self-guided ride. We’ll be riding on a mix of surfaces, including white gravel, dirt, and pavement. In Italian, the “white roads” of Tuscany are referred to as “strade bianche.” These roads are a mix of gravel and dirt, most of which are in excellent condition under the protection of the Tuscan Region and the European Union. With about 28,000 miles of “gravel roads,” Tuscany has more gravel roads than any other region in Italy. Each spring cyclists from all over the world converge on this area to compete in the Grand Fondo Strade Bianche 138.5 km. The Tuscany area consists of rolling countryside, cypress trees, vineyards, and wheat fields. Think quiet meandering country roads, paintings by van Gogh, Mama Mia, olive oil, sunflowers, pasta, and plenty of vino. Our hotel has a pool, bring your swimsuit.
